SuperSonics: Seattle routed Houston, 118-94, on Tuesday night to improve to 2-1 in its first season without star Shawn Kemp, who was traded to Cleveland in the off-season. Vin Baker, who came to Seattle from Milwaukee in the trade, had 20 points, and Gary Payton had 27 points and 12 assists.

Knicks: New York got 26 points from Patrick Ewing, and 17 points and 10 rebounds from Chris Mills to beat Boston, 102-70, on Tuesday night. First-year Celtics coach Rick Pitino was facing his former team, which he coached from 1987-89, for the first time since leaving the Knicks to coach at Kentucky.

Hawks: Steve Smith scored 15 of his 27 points in the third quarter and reserve Alan Henderson had nine of his 19 in the fourth to spark the Atlanta Hawks to a 82-71 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night. Henderson is averaging 18.7 points as a reserve for the Hawks (3-0).

Mavericks: Dallas defeated Vancouver, 92-87, on Tuesday night to improve to 3-0, the second-best start in franchise history behind 1995-96's 4-0 start. Michael Finley scored 29 points and Dennis Scott added 28 for Dallas, which won only 24 games last season.
