County police arrest five Laurel residents, seize drugs, guns in motel raid

County police arrested five Laurel residents Tuesday on drug charges after raids at two rooms in a Laurel motel.

Police seized two loaded handguns, marijuana, crack cocaine and $2,100 from the rooms at Motel 6 on Laurel Fort Meade Road.

Detectives said an informant told them that drug dealers were selling crack cocaine from the rooms in separate ventures. Police got warrants to search the rooms and began the raids at 11: 30 p.m.

The detectives said they found 1.7 grams of marijuana, a .38-caliber revolver and plastic bags used for packaging drugs in one room. In the other they found five people, along with 8 grams of crack cocaine, a .40-caliber automatic handgun with laser sights, drug pipes, scales and packaging material and $2,100 among the occupants, police said.

Christopher Brendon Henley, 27, of the 200 block of Charlotte Road and Gregory Allen Lassiter, 28, of the 13500 block of Briarcroft Court were charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Henley also was charged with a handgun violation, and Lassiter with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Joyce M. Akinyemi, 49, of the first block of Riverview Court; Yvonne Kelly, 42, of the 3500 block of Whiskey Bottom Road; and Tanya M. Hatter, 26, of the 100 block of Lauren Drive were charged with possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police were seeking the person who rented the unoccupied room.
