Two men robbed the Safeway on Montgomery Road in Ellicott City late Monday night, according to Howard County police.

Sgt. Steven E. Keller, a police spokesman, said that two men -- one wearing a green sweat shirt with "JESUS IS THE MESSIAH" printed on it -- approached a cashier about 11: 45 p.m.

After the first man purchased a small item, the second man handed the clerk an item and a note telling the clerk to hand over the register's cash and then kneel down.

A weapon was implied but not displayed, Keller said.

The clerk followed the note's instructions, handing over $200, Keller said.

The robbers fled the store in the direction of the National Guard Armory, a witness told police.

There were no injuries.
