Hereford is ousted by Kent, 3-1

Kent scored three goals in the first 23 minutes of the game and held off Hereford for a 3-1 victory in a Class 1A semifinal at Goucher College yesterday.

"I don't think we were mentally prepared," said Bulls forward Sarah Warner. "We have the skill and we have the speed, but mentally we just weren't in this game. Everybody's got to give 110 percent and that wasn't happening."

The Bulls (13-3) spent almost the entire first half in retreat while the Trojans outshot them 10-0. Only a handful of sensational saves by Bulls goalie Jessica Turnbaugh kept Kent (15-2) from scoring twice as many goals.

The senior had five first-half saves, including an amazing stick save midway through the half. Trojans top scorer Jamie Larrimore tried to slip a loose ball in from the weak side, but Turnbaugh made a 180-degree turn and lunged with her stick in time to clear the ball off the goal line.

"She's made saves like that in other games, but she's never been tested like she was today," said Bulls coach Tammy Mundie.

Turnbaugh finished with eight saves.
