Gusting winds accompanying a morning shower caused power failures throughout Central Maryland yesterday, leaving about 7,200 people in Baltimore City and five suburban counties without power -- some for seven hours.
Residents in scattered pockets of Baltimore City and Baltimore, Howard, Harford, Carroll and Anne Arundel counties experienced failures beginning about 10 a.m., said Nancy Caplan, a Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. spokeswoman. Power was restored throughout the day.
The failures were caused by wind damage to two electric lines -- one in Baltimore City; the other in Harford County, Caplan said.
