Helen Bower Thompson, 77, nurse, Postal Service worker

Helen Bower Thompson, who was a nurse for Baltimore public schools and later the U.S. Postal Service, died of heart failure Oct. 16 at St. Agnes Hospital. The Parkville resident was 77.

Born in Haverford, Pa., she graduated from the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing in 1945 and became a private-duty nurse. She was a school nurse from 1965 to 1977 and worked for the Postal Service from 1983 until she retired in 1988.

Services were Oct. 21.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Kenneth Alvah Thompson, a retired federal food and products safety inspector; three sons, Robert K. Thompson and William H. Thompson, both of Baltimore, and James S. Thompson of San Francisco; a daughter, Cynthia A. Thompson of Baltimore; a brother, Paul Bower of Wilmington, Del.; and a grandson.
