Rental fees for community center may increase

October 30, 1997

Union Bridge residents might pay more to rent the community center under a proposal being considered by the Town Council.

Under a Union Bridge Park Board recommendation, the hall rental fee would increase from $75 to $100. The fee for using the kitchen would rise from $25 to $35 and the custodial fee from $40 to $60. No increase is proposed in the $125 fee for the hall and $50 fee for the kitchen charged to nonresidents.

The council deferred the recommendation after discussing the proposal at the Monday night council meeting.

The proposal is expected to be on the agenda for the Nov. 24 meeting.

Councilwoman Dawn Metcalf, liaison to the park board, reported the request to increase fees, but took no position on it. She declined to make a motion that the council adopt the increases.

Metcalf said she feared that if the custodial fee is increased, renters will refuse to pay it.

Renters have the option of refusing the fee if they agree to clean the center after use, but town officials said compliance has been spotty.

The council asked the board to submit an outline of the services covered by the custodial fee.
