The miniskirt isn't in or out it's a classic

October 30, 1997|By Elsa Klensch | Elsa Klensch,Los Angeles Times Syndicate

I have a 40-year-old daughter and a 20-year-old granddaughter. Both wear miniskirts, and both look unattractive in them.

I've told them miniskirts are out of style, but I get nowhere.

My daughter says her husband loves to see her in short skirts that show off her long attractive legs. My granddaughter says I'm a prude. Am I right, or are they?

Miniskirts are neither in nor out of fashion. They have become a classic that women with good legs keep as a wardrobe staple.

Designers in all the fashion capitals showed minis for fall and winter. The shapes are fuller -- A-lines, pleats and wraps. Snappy short jackets give them a new, youthful proportion and many savvy women are buying.

The longer lengths you favor are generally more graceful and can be quite seductive. But a below-the-knee skirt on a woman with great legs will never look as modern or as sexy as a mini.
