Robert E. Hyer Sr., 70, Orange Engineered founder

Robert E. Hyer Sr., founder and president of a heavy equipment company, died of emphysema Friday at his Westminster home. He was 70.

In 1978, Mr. Hyer founded Orange Engineered Products Inc. in Westminster, which sells industrial dryers and filters. Before then he was in heavy equipment sales.

The native of Newark, N.J., who moved to Westminster in 1965, earned a bachelor's degree from Seton Hall College. He was a Navy Seabee in the Pacific from 1944 to 1946. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Hyer was a communicant of St. John Roman Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St. in Westminster, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. today.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Nancy Robertson; a son, Robert E. Hyer Jr. of Bridgehampton, N.Y.; and three daughters, Katherine H. Hyer of Taneytown, Jane Marie Hyer of Westminster and Patricia Ann Hyer of Philadelphia.

Arthur White Jr., 67, Marine Corps veteran

Arthur White Jr., a West Baltimore resident and Korean War veteran, died of cancer Friday at Mercy Medical Center. He was 67.

The New York City native moved to Baltimore as a teen-ager with his parents. He served in the Marine Corps from the late 1940s to 1953. After he was discharged, he returned to Baltimore and worked as a foreman at an Owings Mills warehouse. He retired in 1995.

In 1967, he married Grace Washington, who died in 1995.

Services will be at 11 a.m. todayat Nutter Funeral Home, 2501 Gwynns Falls Parkway.

He is survived by two brothers, the Rev. John White and Robert White, both of Baltimore; four sisters, Mary Burke, Dr. Lillie Thaniel and Ella Meredith White, all of Baltimore, and Jean Miller Colbert of Prince George's County.
