Mount St. Mary's women outlast St. Francis, Pa., 3-2 Merrill's goal carries Frostburg men by Goucher

Robin Coveleski and Sarah McGinley each had a goal and an assist to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 3-2 victory over visiting St. Francis, Pa., in a Northeast Conference women's soccer game yesterday.

After the Red Flash's Melissa Lash tied the game at 1 on an unassisted goal at 54: 26, Coveleski and McGinley scored 10 minutes apart to give the Mountaineers (4-8-2) some breathing room. Lash scored again with just under five minutes left, but St. Francis (1-13) got no closer.

Kate Kurrow had four saves for the Mountaineers, who outshot the the Red Flash, 22-11. The win clinched a berth for Mount St. Mary's in the NEC tournament on Nov. 7-9.

Men

Frostburg State 1, Goucher 0: Junior Peter Merrill scored the game's only goal on an assist from Ryan Stumpter at 59: 52 as the visiting Bobcats (13-2) dropped the Gophers (0-15) in a nonconference game. Frostburg outshot Goucher 14-4.
