A man in a white pickup truck pulled up slowly behind a Severn woman as she left the Glen Burnie Wal-Mart on Tuesday, reached out, snatched her purse and drove off, county police said.

Mary Ann Almond, 49, told police she was walking across the parking lot in the 7900 block of Crain Highway about 8: 30 p.m. when the truck pulled up and the man grabbed the purse from her shoulder. Almond held on until the strap broke and the man drove off, police said.

The purse, valued at $50, contained an electronic organizer and personal papers, police said.

Almond could not give police a description of the man but said the truck was an older model, possibly a Ford F-150 made between 1980 and 1986, according to police. A company name beginning with an "M" may have been on a sign on the side of the truck, police said.
