Hammond upsets No. 9 River Hill, 2-1

Meg Tilley's goal 20 seconds into the first overtime lifted Hammond past ninth-ranked River Hill, 2-1, handing the host Hawks their only Howard County loss of the season yesterday.

River Hill (10-2 overall, 8-1 league) had clinched the county title Monday.

Amanda Almon gave Hammond (7-7, 6-3) a 1-0 halftime lead. In the half, Hammond goalie Lindsey Mitchell (12 saves) stopped a penalty kick by Kathy Gaertner.

Natalie Cox's goal tied the game for the Hawks.
