A serious accident in east Columbia's Owen Brown village stalled rush-hour traffic for an hour yesterday morning, Howard County police said.

Police said two cars collided about 7: 22 a.m. at Cradlerock Way and Smooth Path.

A 1992 Chevrolet Corsica, driven by Thomas Welsh of the 9500 block of Angelina Circle, was attempting to make a left turn from Cradlerock Way onto Smooth Path when it was struck by a 1987 Honda Civic traveling on Cradlerock Way, a police report said.

Police said the driver of the Honda, Cara Baruth of the 6300 block of Sunset Light, was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was listed in stable condition.

Welsh was taken to Howard County General Hospital and was listed in fair condition.
