They said it

"I was right with him, but when I looked back for the ball, my feet got tangled up, and I fell."

Corey Raymond, Lions cornerback who fell down, allowing Chris Calloway's game-winning 68-yard TD in overtime.

"When you've got a rookie quarterback, you move around a lot and say 'Boo!'"

Eric Davis, Panthers cornerback, who played against Saints rookie Danny Wuerffel.

Injury report

Harry Colon, Lions DB: Suffered a head injury. Did not return.

Darren Woodson, Cowboys DB: Aggravated hyper-extended right knee. Did not return.

Pepper Johnson, Jets LB: Tore a tendon in his left quadriceps. Will need surgery.

Chris Chandler, Falcons QB: Suffered a slight concussion. Did not return.

Kevin Hardy, Jaguars LB: Sprained his left knee. Did not return.

Corey Dillon, Bengals RB: Strained his left knee. Did not return.

By the numbers

Milestones: The Cowboys' Herschel Walker accounted for 153 yards, moving him past Marcus Allen (17,271) into second place on the NFL's career combined net yards list with 17,344. Walter Payton leads with 21,803. Jason Elam, with a field goal and two extra points, has scored in 70 straight games, a Broncos record. He surpassed place-kicker Rich Karlis, who scored in 69 straight games from 1984-88.

Ups: The 49ers scored more than 30 points for the fifth straight time. The Lions' Barry Sanders had over 100 yards rushing for the sixth straight game, the longest streak of his career.

Downs: The Saints have lost 13 consecutive games to NFC West opponents. John Elway fell to 10-15 against the Raiders in the regular season, one of only two AFC teams that he doesn't have a .500 or better record against. The other is Miami (0-1).

Next week

Jaguars (5-2) at Steelers (5-2): The only teams with winning records in the AFC Central duke it out for first.

Vikings (5-2) at Buccaneers (5-2): This game could help end the logjam atop the NFC Central.

Tonight's game

Buffalo (3-3) - Indianapolis (0-8)

Time: 9 p.m., chs. 2, 7

Line: Bills by 1

Vs. spread: Bills 2-4; Colts 2-3.

Last week: Bills lost to Patriots, 33-6. Colts lost to Steelers, 24-22.

Worth watching: Rookie Antowain Smith has taken over the Bills' running game, averaging 5.9 yards per carry. Colts RB Marshall Faulk likes to play Buffalo -- he has rushed for a touchdown in the past five meetings with the Bills.

Outlook: The Colts may still be having nightmares about blowing a 26-point lead at Buffalo three weeks ago. Bills QB Todd Collins plans to play despite a sore nonthrowing shoulder. Giving the ball to Smith may be enough, anyway.

Notable: Bills WR Andre Reed is two catches shy of becoming the fourth NFL player to record 800.

Injuries:

BILLS: Out: DE Jim Jeffcoat (knee); RB Tim Tindale (knee). Questionable: CB Jeff Burris (hamstring); QB Todd Collins (shoulder); WR Steve Tasker (groin). Probable: LB John Holecek (ankle); WR Andre Reed (ribs).

COLTS: Out: LB Tony Bennett (knee). Questionable: LB Elijah Alexander (groin); TE Ken Dilger (hamstring); LB Stephen Grant (neck); T Adam Meadows (hamstring); G-T Kipp Vickers (knee); DT Bernard Whittington (chest). Probable: LB Steve Morrison (wrist).
