A Baltimore County man was charged yesterday with attempted murder in the stabbing Saturday of his mother at her home in the Town & Country Apartments in the 3100 block of West Springs Drive in Ellicott City, Howard County police said.

Leola Howard Mitchell, 50, suffered multiple stab wounds to her back and legs and was in critical condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday, police said. Mitchell was found by police at a neighbor's apartment, where she had gone after the stabbing.
