No. 3 Terps top Villanova in soccer behind Sardis, 4-0 Freshman contributes goal, two assists

Freshman Jason Sardis had a goal and two assists to lead third-ranked Maryland to a 4-0 victory over visiting Villanova last night in men's college soccer at Ludwig Field.

Sardis' goal came in the 16th minute on a pass from senior R. T. Moore. Moore later added a goal to extend the Terps' lead to 3-0. Maryland (10-2-1) led 2-0 at halftime after a goal by Pierre Venditti.

The Terps outshot Villanova, 19-4, allowing only one shot in the first half. The Wildcats fell to 5-5-2.

Drexel 1, Towson 0: Justin Bieber scored on a rebound at 27: 39 to lift the visiting Dragons (6-5-2) over the Tigers (9-5) in an America East Conference game.

South Carolina 3, Navy 2: Hans Whetsone's goal with 28 minutes left broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the host Gamecocks over the Midshipmen (5-8).

Johns Hopkins 4, Haverford 0: Sophomore Teddy Zingman had two goals and an assist to lead the No. 18 and host Blue Jays (10-2) to the win over Haverford (8-3-1).

Muhlenberg 2, Western Maryland 1: Todd Ervin scored two unassisted goals in the second half to lead the visiting Mules (10-3-1) -- ranked eighth in the nation -- past the Green Terror (3-6-2).

Mary Washington 2, Salisbury State 0: Jason Fusaro and Ryan Forbrich scored first-half goals as the Eagles (11-2-1) dropped the host Sea Gulls (6-7) and took over first place in the Capital Athletic Conference.

Frostburg State 4, Pitt-Bradford 2: Ryan Stumptner had two goals and an assist, and Steve Hemke added a goal and two assists, as the Bobcats (11-2) remained in first place in the Alleghany Collegiate Conference.

Beaver 1, Goucher 0: Scott McConney scored the eventual game-winner nine minutes into the game to drop the host Gophers to 0-14.

Women's soccer

Loyola 4, Siena 0: Senior Krystin Porcella scored two goals to lead the Greyhounds (10-4-2, 6-0-0) to a home victory over the Saints (5-9-1, 3-4-0). Sophomore Melissa Martenak added a goal and an assist for Loyola. The Greyhounds outshot the Saints, 23-0.

Towson 2, Drexel 1: Junior Robyn Harry had a goal and an assist in the first half as the host Tigers (10-3-1) tied their single-season record for victories.

Navy 2, Bucknell 0: Anne Kipp and Kristen Riismandel scored first-half goals to lead the Midshipmen (6-6) to their second straight win.

Johns Hopkins 0, Rowan 0, 2 OT: Junior Kate Cushman had three saves to help the Blue Jays (10-2-1) to a scoreless tie with Rowan (10-4-1).

Goucher 2, Catholic 1: Freshman Nana Gecaga scored the game-winner for the host Gophers (4-11) in the 57th minute of the Capital Athletic Conference game.

Western Maryland 5, Ursinus 0: Natalie Hannibal scored two goals in a 10-minute span to lead the Green Terror (7-5) over host Ursinus (7-10).

Salisbury State 5, Kean 1: Courtney Urban had two goals and an assist to lead the host Sea Gulls (12-3) past the Cougars (7-9-1) in a non-conference game.
