Angels: Announced P Shad Williams declined an outright assignment to Triple-A Vancouver to become a free agent. Assigned P Fausto Macey and C Brent Hemphill outright to Vancouver.

Astros: Announced that Bill Virdon, bench coach, will not return. Named Matt Galante bench coach.

Cubs: Claimed 2B Jason Hardtke off waivers from the Mets.

Giants: Renewed the coaching contracts of Carlos Alfonso, Gene Clines, Sonny Jackson, Juan Lopez and Ron Perranoski. Fired Dick Pole, pitching coach. Named Perranoski pitching coach.

Mets: Assigned P Ricardo Jordan outright to Triple-A Norfolk.

Pirates: Released IF Eddie Williams outright. Sent P Matt Ruebel and P John Ericks outright to Triple-A Calgary.

Royals: Promoted Ron Johnson, manager, Gary Lance, pitching coach, and Frank Kyte, trainer, from Double-A Wichita. Named John Mizerock manager, Mike Mason pitching coach and John Finley trainer for Wichita.

Hockey

NHL: Suspended Edmonton D Kevin Lowe for three games and fined him $1,000 for a high-sticking incident in a game against Vancouver on Oct. 13.

Oilers: Acquired F Jason Bowen from the Philadelphia Flyers for F Brantt Myhres.
