Police once again raided the home of a Columbia gun collector yesterday looking for illegal drugs in his Covington Road home, according to Howard County police.

Police said Richard M. Loewinger, 53, was taken into custody after the early morning raid.

Police would not disclose what -- if anything -- was found in the Loewinger home. He was being held awaiting an appearance before a court commissioner, when formal charges are expected to be filed.

Loewinger's house was raided June 15 by police looking for marijuana. When searchers found a cache of 38 weapons and what they thought were the makings of a pipe bomb, several streets in Loewinger's Hickory Ridge neighborhood were evacu- ated for seven hours on Father's Day afternoon.

Loewinger, who was arrested on drug charges then, claimed that he used the marijuana for medical reasons and is a legitimate gun collector. Police still retain his gun collection, which includes rifles, shotguns and handguns.

In July, his wife, Susan Loewinger, charged her husband with assault and asked for a protective order that was denied after an August hearing.

The drug charges are set for a November trial.
