Boat beat: The front three boats are sailing within six nautical miles of each other and have rounded the second course mark, Ilha da Trindade. The saying goes that it's the corners that make sailing interesting and this corner has been a peach. In a dramatic turn of events yesterday, EF Language appeared to sail around Innovation Kvaerner -- leader for the past two weeks. Merit Cup followed EF Language, and Innovation Kvaerner found itself in third. EF Language skipper Paul Cayard described the move: "I went to lay down and two hours later Mark Rudiger woke me up saying that the wind had headed and we needed to figure out what to do. What ensued was six hours of non-stop hustle on board EF Language. We tacked 10 times, shifting all the sails and all the stores each time. We changed sails seven times, using everything from our lightest jib to our heaviest spinnaker. We were running in a wind from 020 and beating in a wind from 220. We could see the squall clouds all around us and we just tried to keep on the good side of them and not let any of them run over us."
