A Baltimore County man was charged with manslaughter after the pickup truck he was driving Saturday night crossed the center line of Route 97 near the Pennsylvania line and collided head-on with a car, killing its 43-year-old driver, state police at Westminster said.

Benjamin Franklin McCauley IV, 18, of the 700 block of Cockeys Mill Road in Reisterstown was released to his parents on a $25,000 bond, police said.

Police said McCauley was northbound about 7 p.m. when his truck skidded across the center line and collided with a southbound car, killing Beverly E. Harner of the 700 block of Whitehall Road in Littlestown, Pa.

A passenger in Harner's car, Jacqueline Medford of Glen Burnie, was treated at Carroll County General Hospital and released, police said.

Police said the investigation was continuing. They attributed the crash to alcohol, speed and driver error.
