Local-U.S. task force arrests more than 70 in 3-day operation

October 12, 1997

More than 70 people sought on criminal charges have been rounded up in a three-day regional operation by local and federal law enforcement agencies, Baltimore police said yesterday.

The Joint Regional Warrant Task Force -- coordinated by the city police and including officers from the city sheriff's office, Baltimore County police, U.S. Marshals Service and Secret Service -- attempted to serve about 300 warrants Thursday through yesterday.

The suspects caught had been charged with crimes including murder and rape, said Lt. Jay Fisher of the city police warrant task force. He noted that the task force had arrested 2,500 people since February -- but that police have about 40,000 warrants left.
