Virginia man walking in road dies after being struck by car

A Virginia man was killed early Sunday when he was struck by a car while walking in the middle of Route 27 in Manchester, state police said.

David G. Warfield, 23, of Stafford was pronounced dead at the scene on Manchester Road south of Martin Road.

Police said a 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix was traveling south about 1: 50 a.m. when it struck Warfield. The car skidded into a guard rail before stopping.

The driver, Ronnie J. Schuman, 19, of the 300 block of Winsome Drive, and his passenger, Danielle M. Connor, 18, of the 100 block of Liberty St. in Westminster, were not injured, police said.

The man's body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore where an autopsy was to be performed, police said.

Schuman was not charged, a police report said.

Fire

Manchester: Firefighters responded at 6: 34 a.m. Saturday to a trash fire in the 2400 block of Fairway Oaks Court. Units were out 27 minutes.
