Clifton F. Potter, 77, sheet metal mechanic

Clifton F. Potter, a retired sheet metal mechanic and longtime resident of Hamilton in Northeast Baltimore, died of complications from diabetes Thursday at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He was 77.

Born in Concord, N.H., Mr. Potter moved to Baltimore when he was 6 years old. After finishing high school, he joined the merchant marine and served in the Coast Guard until 1945.

He became a sheet metal mechanic for Ackerman & Baynes Inc. on Erdman Avenue and retired in 1985.

He married Madeline O'Brien 46 years ago.

A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. tomorrow at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road in Towson.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Potter is survived by a daughter, Anne P. Wismer of Hunt Valley; two sons, Douglas G. Potter of Breezewood, Pa., and H. Byron Potter of Baltimore; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Peter J. Morano Jr., 31, art student from Columbia

Peter J. Morano Jr., an art student who grew up in Columbia, died of a brain tumor Thursday at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he had lived for three years. He was 31.

Mr. Morano was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.

Born in Cheltenham, England, he and his family moved to Maryland when he was 8.

He graduated from Meade High School and attended Howard County Community College before he earned a bachelor's degree in art from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

He played indoor hockey on several teams.

Services are planned for 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday at M. F. Williams Funeral Home in Clifton Heights, Pa.

He is survived by his parents, Peter and Dorothy Morano of Columbia; a sister, Kelly Morano of Columbia; and his grandparents, Stephen and Dorothy McFee of Primos, Pa.
