Oak. Mills deals No. 1 River Hill first soccer loss No. 6 McDonogh runs mark to 10-1 with 2-0 victory

Unranked Oakland Mills used goals by Trevor Shea and Brian Grund to upset top-ranked and previously unbeaten River Hill, 2-1, yesterday in boys' soccer.

The Scorpions (4-4) got 12 saves from goalie Chris Ebeling to preserve the win over the Hawks (7-1).

No. 6 McDonogh 2, Episcopal 0: Rob Callinan scored the game-winner at the 17: 30 mark and Taiser Chawdry added an insurance goal at the 30-minute mark as the Eagles (10-1) shut out Episcopal (Pa.).

Eagles goalie Bobby Bensen made three saves to earn his seventh shutout of the season.

No. 7 Hammond 5, Atholton 0: Brian Pietrkya scored twice and Dave Packer had two assists to lead the visiting Bears (6-2-1) past the winless Raiders.

No. 11 Centennial 5, Long Reach 1: Matt Hewitt scored two goals as the host Eagles (5-2) put away the Lightning. Centennial outshot Long Reach, 35-6.

No. 13 Chesapeake-AA 3, Severna Park 1: Senior forward Chad Farley scored two second-half goals and had an assist as the Cougars (6-1-1) came from behind to defeat the host Falcons (4-5-1).

Severn 0, St. Mary's 0: Goalie Colin Wyatt had nine saves for the Admirals (6-0-2). Keeper Chris Summers stopped eight shots for the Saints (5-4-2).

Girls soccer

No. 9 Arundel 2, Northeast 1: Abria Green scored the eventual game-winner with nine minutes left as the visiting Wildcats dropped the Eagles to 2-6. Margaret Green also scored for Arundel.

No. 10 South River 5, Old Mill 1: Nancy Telker, Shannon Sims, Angela Beckett, Heather Collison and Jess Duall each scored goals in the Seahawks' (6-1) win over the host Patriots.

Volleyball

No. 2 Severna Park 3, Chesapeake-AA 1: Outside hitter Julie Gosewisch had 19 kills, 10 aces, and was 26-for-26 serving, and Lauren Boyd had 46 assists as the Falcons (7-1) beat the visiting Cougars, 15-5, 13-15, 15-5, 15-9.

Field hockey

Long Reach 2, No. 15 Centennial 1: Jay Lance's 40 saves helped the visiting Lightning upset the Eagles (3-3). Robin Siskin and An Nguyen scored for Long Reach.
