K. Alvero kicks Loyola past St. Peter's, 1-0 Colleges

Kevin Alvero's penalty kick in the 39th minute lifted visiting Loyola over St. Peter's, 1-0, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's college soccer game yesterday in Jersey City, N.J.

The kick was awarded when Chip Cominski of St. Peter's (1-8, 0-3) fouled Brian Alvero of Loyola (4-3-2, 3-0) in the penalty area. Cominski was issued a yellow card at 38: 10.

Bridgewater 2, Western Maryland 1: Freshman Philip Roper's first goal broke a 1-1 tie and lifted Bridgewater (2-7) over host Western Maryland (2-4-1) in a nonconference game.

Washington College 3, Catholic 0: Justin Daniel scored twice in the second half to power the host Shoremen (3-6) past Catholic (4-6).

Women's soccer

Mary Washington 4, Western Maryland 0: Mary Washington (8-1-1), ranked eighth in Division III, scored twice in each half for a nonconference win over Western Maryland (4-3) in Fredericksburg, Va.
