Drug suspect arrested in East Baltimore

October 02, 1997|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A man suspected of distributing cocaine and marijuana throughout much of the city from his East Baltimore home was arrested last night, police said.

Officers who raided the man's home in the 100 block of S. Regester St. about 8: 10 p.m. seized $9,000 worth of suspected cocaine and marijuana worth at least $30,000, said Sgt. Richard Smith, head of the Southeastern District drug enforcement unit.

He said the man was holding a loaded handgun when police entered the three-story rowhouse and was disarmed immediately.

Smith said Miguel Angel Avilez Penaloza, 29, was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute and with possession of a handgun while trafficking in a drug enterprise.

Penaloza was being held at Central Booking and Intake Center pending a bail hearing today, Smith said.
