Wizards open drills Friday with 17 players

The Washington Wizards will open training camp at Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W. Va., Friday with a roster of 17 players, including five free agents.

"Most of the players have NBA or professional basketball experience," general manager Wes Unseld said. "We look forward to a very competitive camp."

Second-round draft pick God Shammgod will join free-agents Johnny Rhodes, Jimmy Oliver, Amal McCaskill, Darvin Ham and Chuck Kornegay in trying to earn a spot with the Wizards. Rhodes, a starter at Maryland (1992-96), played in Germany last season.
