Police in New York City have arrested a 21-year-old Queens, N.Y., man and charged him in the April fatal shooting of Dana Antwan Newton, 24, of Abingdon.

Elsworth J. Tavernier was arrested during the weekend in Queens and charged with first-degree murder and use of a handgun in the case, which the Harford County sheriff's office says might have been drug-related.

Tavernier is being held in New York pending extradition, according to the sheriff's office.

Newton, of the 3100 block of Laurel View Drive in Abingdon, was found April 2 with a gunshot wound to the head as he lay in the hallway of a building in the 1900 block of Edgewater Drive in Edgewood. He died at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Witnesses told Harford County sheriff's investigators that they saw Newton being backed into the stairway by three men. The witnesses heard a shot, and saw the men run from the building, police said.

Dakim Mason, 20, was arrested in North Carolina in June. The sheriff's office has a warrant for Altonia "Al" Henderson, 21, also of Queens.
