Man accused of fleeing jail arrested in Baltimore County

September 29, 1997

A Hampstead man is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail after he was arrested by Baltimore County officers on shoplifting charges the day after authorities said he escaped from town police.

Authorities said Matthew Rendelman, 21, of the 1300 block of N. Main St. fled the town's police headquarters shortly before noon Tuesday after bolts on a wall bracket to which he was handcuffed were loosened.

Rendelman was arrested about 2 p.m. Wednesday in White Marsh and will face charges there before being returned to Carroll County on auto theft and drug charges, police said Friday.

He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
