County police said they arrested a Lanham man Wednesday on an assault charge after his former girlfriend said he pulled a gun during a custody dispute and threatened to shoot her.

Tracy L. Robinson, 20, told police she was arguing about custody with Reginald L. Desaussure, 23, at her home in the 200 block of Jill Lane in Laurel shortly before 9 a.m.

Police said Robinson told them that she grabbed an iron to protect herself, and the man pulled a gun from his waistband, pointed it at her and said, "If you hit me with that, I'll pop you."

A roommate who witnessed the incident called police. Officers arrived moments later as the man was leaving the apartment with the couple's child, police said.

An officer stopped the man and searched him but did not find a gun. Another officer who searched the house found a gun in a bag in a bedroom, police said.

Desaussure, of the 9900 block of Good Luck Road, was charged with first-degree assault.
