Bomb scare closes portion of Annapolis street three hours

September 28, 1997

Annapolis police shut down a portion of Main Street for almost three hours yesterday, fearing that an abandoned briefcase might be a bomb.

About two blocks of Main Street were closed and several shops evacuated during the three- hour bomb scare, said Sgt. Gene Austin of the city police.

The briefcase was discovered just before noon in front of 193 Main St.

It was sprayed with a water cannon and found to be empty, Austin said.
