Mihaly Virizlay, principal cellist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, received the "Chevalier du Violoncelle" (Knight of the Cello) award from Indiana University for his contribution to cello performance and commitment to teaching.

"It is always wonderful to be recognized," Virizlay said. "Since this award is about teaching and performing, I am especially honored. It has been my life's ambition to guide young cellists so that one day they may teach others to become wonderful cellists as well."

Virizlay joined the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 1963. In addition to his regular schedule of concert performances with the BSO and as a soloist, he teaches at the Peabody Conservatory.
