Catholic stays perfect, beating St. Mary's, 2-0 Girls soccer

September 26, 1997|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

St. Mary's was getting to the ball first and had its short-passing game working well against No. 1 Catholic High yesterday afternoon before disaster hit with the first half in its last minute.

That's when senior striker Nicole Brooks found the ball and an open net at the same time to give the Cubs a lead. The No. 4 Saints weren't quite the same team after, giving up another goal 10 minutes into the second half to fall to their Catholic League rivals, 2-0, at Weems-Whelan Field in Annapolis.

Catholic, ranked fifth in the most recent USA Today Top 25 national poll, remained perfect at 8-0 this season, and St. Mary's dropped to 6-3-1.
