Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes in Baltimore and Baltimore County.

Southern District

Robbery try/shooting: A man was talking on a pay phone about 7 p.m. yesterday in the 1600 block of Plum St. when a gunman approached and demanded his money. When the victim refused, the gunman shot him in the chest and fled. The victim drove himself to Harbor Hospital Center, where he was in stable condition.

Theft: A bike valued at $1,000 was stolen Wednesday from the rear of a pickup truck parked in the 1000 block of S. Charles St.

Southwestern District

Stolen car: A blue 1991 Ford station wagon with tags EBP 451 was stolen Wednesday in the 400 block of Colleen Ave.

Western District

Robbery: Shortly after a 65-year-old motorist picked up another man in the 2500 block of W. Franklin St. about 8 p.m. Wednesday, the passenger pulled out a handgun and robbed the driver of $23.

Northwestern District

Robbery: A woman was in the 4400 block of Wentworth Ave. about 8 p.m. Wednesday when a gunman robbed her of a purse containing cash and property, all of unknown value.

Central District

Robbery: An unarmed man jumped over the counter at Club Charles in the 1700 block of N. Charles St. about 7 p.m. Wednesday and stole nearly $200 from a cash register.

Eastern District

Shooting: A man was walking through a park in the 1300 block of N. Eden St. about 9 p.m. Wednesday when he was assaulted by a gunman who shot him in the right foot and left leg. The victim was in stable condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital yesterday.

Northern District

Burglary: A videocassette recorder, television and a cellular phone, all valued at $600, were stolen Wednesday from a house in the 2800 block of W. Garrison Ave.

Burglary: Cash and several cartons of cigarettes, all valued at nearly $800, were stolen Wednesday from Hopkins Store in the 3100 block of St. Paul St.

White Marsh Precinct

Burglary: Compact discs, cassette tapes and other property were stolen Wednesday from an apartment in the first block of Stonecutter Court.

Essex Precinct

Robbery: Two men, one with a handgun, robbed Mustang Pizza in the 700 block of S. Marlyn Ave. of an undisclosed sum of money about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Parkville Precinct

Burglary/theft: An intruder stole tools from a storage shed in the 3100 block of Summit Ave. on Wednesday, then broke into a car parked in the driveway and stole two 35 mm cameras. The stolen property was valued at nearly $1,300.

Slaying victim identified: Police identified the man fatally shot in the 1700 block of W. Fayette St. about 7 p.m. Wednesday as Paul J. Thomas, 24, of the 4000 block of Cranston Ave. Police Detective Homer Pennington said no arrest had been made and the motive for the slaying was not known. Metro Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information.
