St. Francis of Assisi parish to dedicate new building Oct. 4, hold dance Oct. 3

St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic parish will dedicate its new Worship Center at 11305 Route 216 at 6 p.m. Oct. 4.

Cardinal William H. Keeler will preside at the first Mass in the new building, which will house religious services and secular activities.

A dance in honor of the dedication will be held from 7: 30 p.m. to 11: 30 p.m. Oct. 3 at Turf Valley Resort and Conference Center, 2700 Turf Valley Road in Ellicott City.

Wool garment contest to be held Nov. 1

The Maryland Agriculture Fair Board, Maryland Cooperative Extension Service, Maryland Sheep Breeders Association, and fabric and sewing machine stores will sponsor a "Make It Yourself With Wool" contest.

Entry forms must be postmarked by Oct. 1. The contest will be held Nov. 1 at Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg.

One or two garments -- made from loomed or felted yarn of 100 percent wool, or a minimum of 60 percent wool and 40 percent synthetic fiber -- may be entered.

Contestants must submit a $15 entry fee and swatches of the fabric used.
