Book Festival means Charles St. traffic diversion

September 25, 1997|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Traffic on Charles Street at Mount Vernon will be diverted during the rush hour tomorrow, starting at 6 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m., because of the second Baltimore Book Festival.

Friday night commuters are advised to use Calvert Street as an alternate route north, according to the city's Department of Public Works.

The two-day book festival will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Outdoor booths on Mount Vernon will be set up for readings, book browsing and cooking demonstrations.

The Peabody Institute will have an open house from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

"This is a way to experience Mount Vernon the way it's meant to be experienced," said Jamie Hunt of the Mount Vernon Cultural District, noting the sidewalks of Mount Vernon will be flooded with walkers during the festival.
