A man broke into an Arnold home Thursday, lay in wait in a shower and raped a 60-year-old woman at knifepoint, county police said.

The woman went to her bathroom about 9: 30 p.m. after she heard water running in the sink and the man grabbed her from behind, held a large knife to her throat and raped her, then demanded her wallet, police said.

The woman told her assailant where her purse was and the man fled with an undisclosed amount of money from it.

Police, who searched with dogs and a helicopter, found the knife near the woman's home but did not find the man, who apparently had forced a rear sliding glass door to get into the house.

The woman was treated at North Arundel Hospital for cuts to her arms and hand and released, police said.
