Hammond boys pin first loss on Magruder, 2-1 Zanti has 2nd hat trick of week in McDonogh win

Dave Packer scored the winning goal with 21 minutes left to play to lift No. 5-ranked Hammond (4-0-1) to a boys soccer victory over Magruder (4-1) yesterday.

Ryan Pflugrad added a goal and an assist for Hammond against the Montgomery countians.

In other boys soccer action:

No. 6 McDonogh 3, Loyola 0: Heroki Kawase scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Eagles (5-1) past the host Greyhounds (2-1).

No. 8 Archbishop Spalding 1, Gilman 0: Brian Wright scored 20 minutes into the first half to lift host Spalding.

No. 14 Patterson 11, Southern-Baltimore 0: Senior striker Guillermo Pineda led the Clippers' ambush with three goals and an assist, and juniors John Comi and Damian Krzezminski added two scores each to improve the visitors to 4-0-1. Southern fell to 1-1.

Girls soccer

No. 15 McDonogh 4, Centennial 1: Lisa Zanti notched her second hat trick of the week, as the Eagles from Owings Mills (3-2-2) out-shot the Eagles of Centennial, 29-8. Zanti had her first hat trick in a 7-1 win over Seton Keough on Tuesday.

Field hockey

No. 5 St. Paul's 1, Oldfields 0: Lauren Dahdan scored at 44: 45 in the second half to lift the Crusaders over Oldfields (0-1). St. Paul's had a 20-1 edge in shots on goal.

No. 6 Fallston 6, Hammond 1: Kate Simon, Carrie Wirth and Jeannie Tyler each scored two goals as the Cougars' (3-1) walloped visiting Hammond (2-1).

No. 11 Chesapeake-AA 2, Southern-AA 0: Wendy Ison scored two goals to lead the host Cougars (4-0) over the Bulldogs (1-3-0). Rachael O'Donnell made 13 saves for Southern-AA.

No. 15 Arundel 0, Queen Anne's 0: Megan Tidwell had eight saves to preserve a tie for the Wildcats (2-1-1).

Meade 2, Broadneck 0: Senior attackers Cristina Bowers and Jodi Beitzel scored goals to provide the Mustangs (3-2) more than enough cushion against the host Bruins (1-5). Meade goalie Kim Forbes did not face a shot.
