That restaurant taste, maybe, for the home cook

Rush-hour remedies

September 17, 1997|By Maria Hiaasen

* Item: Tyson Restaurant Favorites

* What you get: 2 servings, about 27 ounces

* Cost: $5.79

* Preparation time: About 20 minutes, stovetop or microwave

* Review: Tyson has expanded this frozen line, designed to let you "Dine out at home," but not all of the new entries work. The Southwest blackened wraps sizzle with a superb seasoning, but they require constant stirring. Tyson's new recipe for chicken fried rice is much sweeter than my Chinese takeout's. The kids liked it, though. Skip the new rosemary chicken with penne pasta; I couldn't detect even a hint of rosemary, and onions overpowered the dish. You'll need to follow several steps to cook the pouches of rice, pasta, vegetables and meat in these meals. Stovetop prep is preferable to microwave.
