Indians update

Cleveland is 20-11 since Aug. 12 and has opened a 7 1/2 -game lead in the AL Central. After yesterday's 8-3 win over the White Sox, the Indians have a .288 team batting average, second in the league behind Boston (.294). Jim Thome hit his 40th home run yesterday, giving the Indians 205. Only Seattle (237) has hit more the AL. Former Oriole Jose Mesa reclaimed the closer's job and yesterday allowed his first earned run in his past 19 appearances. The teams split two games in Cleveland earlier this month. Krivda allowed two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings in a 9-3 victory. Ogea took the loss, giving up nine hits and five runs in five innings. He had stifled the Orioles in Cleveland on May 23, allowing two hits and an unearned run in a complete-game victory. Nagy lost to the Orioles on May 30, though he surrendered just one earned run in seven innings. Both teams pulled some starters from the minors to lend a hand in the doubleheaders. Rodriguez will be making his second major-league start. Weathers began the year in the Yankees' bullpen.
