Chamber's Biz Expo '97 scheduled for Oct. 29

Biz Expo '97, the Howard County Chamber of Commerce's 11th annual Business-to-Business Trade Show, will be held Oct. 29 at Turf Valley Resort & Conference Center in Ellicott City.

A breakfast with county executives from Howard and Montgomery counties will open the show.

Entrepreneurial fund opens Internet home page

The Jim Rouse Entrepreneurial Fund -- a private, nonprofit financing alternative for small businesses starting in Howard County -- has opened an Internet home page.

The site will have information about support programs, loan application forms, a list of new and exisiting small-business borrowers, borrower case studies, community contributors to the nonprofit program and the fund's news releases.

The Web address is www.jref.org.

The Web site has been contributed to the fund by the Columbia Connextion.

The fund, which is based in the Business Resource Center in Columbia, provides risk-oriented financing programs and management, educational and mentoring support services.

Howard Chamber appoints Riemer interim chief

The Howard County Chamber of Commerce has appointed Michael G. Riemer of Riemer, Muegge & Associates and The Riemer Group as interim executive director.

Riemer has been a chamber member since 1980 and has served as vice president of governmental affairs and chamber vice president. He was elected president in 1993.

He is chairman of the board at Riemer, Muegge & Associates, a firm he founded in 1979 to provide land development planning, design and civil engineering services. The company's staff includes about 75 planners, engineers and surveyors.

Agribusiness Breakfast to start again Thursday

The Agribusiness Breakfast will resume bimonthly meetings from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday in the dining hall at Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship.

Louis J. Ulman, an attorney with Hodes, Ulman, Pessin and Katz, will speak on estate planning, tax laws, and other estate issues.

The cost is $5 at the door. Reservations are required by today.

'Selling Secrets' workshop will be held Sept. 25

The Columbia Town Center Community Association will sponsor a workshop by Terri Garnet of The Burkhardt Group -- an affiliate of the Sandler Sales Institute -- entitled "Selling Secrets" from 7: 30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 25 at Historic Oakland, on Vantage Point Road, in Columbia.

The seminar will focus on low-pressure attitudes, behaviors and sales techniques.

Garnet is a certified sales trainer with 20 years' experience in sales and sales management.

Vivian Lee Adkins, former clerk for Judge Andrew L. Sonner of the Court of Special Appeals and Judge Marvin B. Steinberg of Baltimore Circuit Court and a resident of Columbia, has been appointed to the position of associate in the firm of Wright, Constable & Skeen, L.L.P., a Baltimore-based law firm. She received her law degree from the University of Maryland in 1996.
