Southern, Hodkin spark Mount to 3-1 victory over Wofford

Mark Southern and Simon Hodkin scored second-half goals to break a tie, as Mount St. Mary's defeated Wofford, 3-1, yesterday in the Wofford College Soccer Fall Classic in Spartanburg, S.C.

Southern took a pass from Hodkin in the 61st minute to break a 1-1 tie.

The Mountaineers (4-1) continue in the tournament against South Alabama at 1 p.m. today.

Colgate 2, Navy 1: The Midshipmen fell behind 2-0 by halftime on an own goal and Ted Pease's tally.

Johns Hopkins 2, Plymouth 1, 2OT: Midfielder Chris Thomas took a pass from Cory Tiette inside the penalty box with 12: 00 left in the second overtime and scored to give the eighth-ranked Blue Jays a win in the Elmira (N.Y.) Invitational.

St. Mary's 2, Goucher 1: John O'Conner and Pete Sweigard each scored in the first 10: 00 to help the Seahawks win a Capital Athletic Conference game.


George Washington 4, Navy 3: Chemar Smith and Lauren Paplia each scored twice, and Smith's final goal with : 42 left lifted the Colonials over the visiting Midshipmen. Vicky Brunt assisted on Smith's game-winner.

Temple 2, Mount St. Mary's 0: Temple got goals from Nicole Schlitt and Jessica Stahlin to spoil the Mountaineers' home opener.

College of Notre Dame 1, Salisbury State 0, OT: Diana Muto scored 9: 13 into overtime to lift the host Gators (4-1), ranked ninth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, over the No. 5 Sea Gulls (2-1).

Villa Julie 2, York 1: Jen Monaldi scored two unassisted goals, as visiting Villa Julie (1-2) edged York (3-2). Monaldi opened the scoring at 35: 41 and scored the game-winner at the 24: 30 mark of the second half.

Towson 6, St. Francis (Pa.) 0: Karen Coster scored three goals and added an assist, as host Towson (4-2) shut out St. Francis (0-4). Johns Hopkins 4, Albright 0: Sarah Parola scored twice, as the visiting Blue Jays (3-0) shut out Albright.

St. Mary's 2, Goucher 1: Megan Haskins and Tara Jensen each scored goals to lead the Seahawks (3-1) over the Gophers (2-3).
