Indians: Purchased contract of P David Weathers from Triple-A Buffalo. Designated P Steve Montgomery for assignment.

Rangers: Renewed contracts of pitching coach Dick Bosman, bench coach Bucky Dent, bullpen coach Larry Hardy, batting coach Rudy Jaramillo, first base coach Ed Napoleon and third base coach Jerry Narron for 1998. Named Don Reynolds roving minor-league hitting instructor, Butch Wynegar catching instructor and Julio Cruz base-running and bunting instructor.
