Continuing its efforts to consolidate a highly fragmented industry, National Medical Technologies Inc., based in Arnold, said yesterday that it had acquired Breathing Disorders Inc. of Oklahoma City.

With the acquisition, National Medical Technologies now has more than 50 labs, in hospitals or free-standing, in seven states ,, and the District of Columbia, testing for sleep disorders, especially those related to breathing problems, according to William F. Niland, NMT's senior vice president.

Terms were not disclosed.

Breathing Disorders Inc. will add about $2 million in annual revenue to NMT, bringing its annual sales to about $6.5 million, Niland said.

At that, he said, it is the largest in the industry -- and it has set a goal of remaining at the top.

He said the company, which has secured $3 million in equity financing from three venture capital firms, including Anthem Capital of Baltimore, was actively pursuing other acquisitions, and hopes to grow to $15 million in annual revenue in the next six months.

NMT was started in June 1966 and made its initial acquisitions in October.
