Baltimore County police are searching for an Essex man who has been charged with first-degree murder and carjacking after an Aug. 10 incident outside a tavern, originally thought to be a hit-and-run.

Shawn Timothy Long, 23, of the 800 block of Frankewitz Road is being sought after the state medical examiner's office ruled the death of 58-year-old William Albert Ehinger Jr. a homicide.

Police said Ehinger of the 2400 block of Holly Neck Road was struck by a car outside a bar in the 1800 block of Eastern Blvd., and his car was discovered missing.

Police originally believed the cause of death was hit-and-run, but changed it to homicide Sept. 4 after interviewing witnesses and receiving the ruling of the state medical examiner. Officers believe that robbery was the motive.

John Roger Simpson, 27, of the 900 block of Frankewitz Road has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and carjacking in the incident.
