Hospitals are opening three outpatient facilities in the Towson-Lutherville area, as they continue to compete for patients in suburban markets.

Sinai Health System yesterday dedicated a new center in Towson, including a Women's Health Center providing primary and specialty care with an all-female medical staff. The center replaces a smaller one that Sinai used to operate at Belvedere Square.

St. Joseph Medical Center will dedicate an urgent-care center in Towson tomorrow. St. Joseph has entered into a new joint agreement to help operate the center, which will be renamed Towson Health Express. St. Joseph says it hopes its participation in the urgent-care center will discourage inappropriate use of the hospital's emergency room.

The five-hospital Helix Health group has opened a sports medicine and rehabilitation center in Lutherville, offering services including outpatient orthopedic surgery.

"We're taking the traditional hospital services and placing them in an accessible location," said Rob Gemeroth, coordinator of the Helix center.
