Parents and teachers prepare for back-to-school sessions

NOW THAT schools are back in session, it's time for back-to-school nights.

Odenton Elementary School, 1290 Odenton Road, will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight for the parents of kindergartners through second-graders and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow night for the parents of third- through fifth-graders.

The school is holding the event on two nights to prevent crowding in the halls and classrooms.

The PTA will conduct a brief business meeting to vote on its budget for the new school year at tonight's open house only.

Waugh Chapel Elementary School, 840 Sunflower Drive, Odenton, will be open at 7 p.m. tonight. The PTA has scheduled a business meeting to vote on the coming year's budget.

Back-to-school night at Arundel Middle School, 1179 Hammond Lane, Odenton, will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 for parents of sixth-graders and at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 for parents with children in grades seven and eight.

Back-to-school nights allow parents to meet their children's teachers, visit their classrooms, meet the administrators and ask questions.

Athletic club offers crab feast

The Gambrills Athletic Club is sponsoring a crab feast from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the club hall, on McKnew Road in Gambrills.

The cost is $22 per person. Music will be provided by the band Reason. Food will be served from 7 p.m. to 10: 30 p.m., crabs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The music starts at 8 p.m. and lasts until midnight.

Trinity church plans dinner

If you prefer red meat over seafood, stop by the Trinity United Methodist Church steak supper from from 3: 30 p.m. to 6: 30 p.m. Saturday at the church, 956 Patuxent Road.

A 12-ounce New York strip steak, a baked potato, salad, green beans and applesauce are $11 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 11. Children under 6 eat free.

Bingo games galore

If you like to play bingo, this is your weekend.

The Odenton Volunteer Fire Company will play host to a fund-raising bingo session at 4 p.m. Sunday in the fire hall, on Route 175.

Prizes for each game will be a Longaberger basket or a pottery piece. The admission price -- $10 in advance, $12 at the door -- includes one double hard card for each of the 20 regular games and a chance at the door prize. Extra double hard cards may be purchased for $2 each.

There also will be two special games with cards available for $1 each, and raffles will be conducted throughout the event. Food will be sold.
