Major Leagues: Mark Petkovsek of the St. Louis Cardinals and Johnny Damon of the Kansas City Royals each were suspended for three games for actions that led to a bench-clearing melee in an interleague game Aug. 30 at Kansas City.

Brewers: 2B Fernando Vina agreed to a two-year contract with a club option for the year 2000.

Mariners: Recalled IF Giomar Guevara from Double-A Memphis.

Marlins: Recalled P Rob Stanifer from Triple-A Charlotte.

Royals: Purchased the contract of C Andy Stewart from Triple-A Omaha.

Twins: Traded C Greg Myers to the Atlanta Braves for player to be named. Designated P Joe Borowski for assignment. Recalled C Javier Valentin from Double-A New Britain.


Bucks: Named Dick Versace assistant coach.

Kings: Waived G Gary Grant and C Matt Fish.

Magic: Signed F Charles `Bo` Outlaw, who had been with the Los Angeles Clippers, and F Jason Lawson, their second-round draft pick.


Cornell: Named Jeff Tambroni men's assistant lacrosse coach.

Hartford: Announced basketball C Rob Sawicki has transferred from South Alabama.

Ohio State: Declared basketball F Shaun Stonerook academically ineligible for the 1997-98 season.


Coyotes: Signed free-agent D Brad Tiley to a one-year contract.

Stars: Re-signed RW Grant Marshall to a two-year contract.

Panthers: Re-signed G Mark Fitzpatrick to a one-year contract.

Kings: Signed G Frederic Chabot to a two-year contract.
