Yankees update

The Yankees have lost five of six, with Mike Stanton's bases-loaded walk last night completing a three-game sweep at the hands of the lowly Phillies. Curt Schilling struck out 16 on Monday and Mike Grace faced the minimum 27 hitters in Tuesday's three-hit shutout, the first against the Yankees since the All-Star break. Meanwhile, manager Joe Torre has had to restructure his starting rotation because of the ineffective Hideki Irabu and the injured David Cone. The Orioles have won all four games so far against the Yankees, the last of which put them up a season-high 9 1/2 games on June 4. Yankees manager Joe Torre is close to handing the starting third base job back to Wade Boggs because Charlie Hayes is in a 4-for-33 funk. Boggs was scratched Monday night with a sore groin. Center fielder Bernie Williams is again scalding. He was named AL Player of the Week and Player of the Month after hitting .395 with eight homers and 23 RBIs for August.
