Reds: SS Barry Larkin (left heel) had two-hour surgery and should be able to begin running in eight to 12 weeks.


Bulls: Signed C Joe Kleine to one-year contract.

76ers: Re-signed F-G Mark Davis to a one-year contract.


Auburn-Montgomery: G Marcus Bullard, who started two years ago for Mississippi State's Final Four basketball team, has enrolled after spending nearly a year in prison for violating his probation by pistol-whipping another student.

Connecticut: Women's basketball F Shea Ralph, the Big East Rookie of the Year, again tore the same ligament that ended her 1996 season in the NCAA tournament and will not play this season.

Florida State: Settled a $380,000 lawsuit against former women's basketball coach Chris Gobrecht for $108,000. She was one year into a five-year deal with FSU when she left to take the same position at Southern California.

Hampton: Named Mamie Rallins women's track and field coach.
